Terms of service
The deal between you and us, in plain language.
These terms are the agreement between you (the business using the service) and BalanceSheets, operated by Shail Silver in Ontario, Canada. By creating an account or using https://balancesheets.com you agree to them. If you are signing up for a company, you confirm you have the authority to agree on its behalf.
1. What BalanceSheets is
BalanceSheets is software that connects to your QuickBooks Online company and, optionally, your bank accounts through Plaid, and turns that data into financial statements, a cash flow forecast, a financial health score, a business valuation estimate, monthly reports, and answers to questions about your numbers.
It is not accounting, tax, legal, investment, or lending advice. It does not replace your accountant. The valuation is an estimate, not a certified appraisal. Check important decisions with a qualified professional.
2. Your account
- You sign in with a Google account. Keep that account secure; you are responsible for activity under it.
- You must be at least 18 and using the service for a business, not personal finances.
- Give us accurate information and keep it current.
- You can invite team members. You are responsible for what they do in your account.
3. Connecting QuickBooks and your bank
- You authorize us to access your QuickBooks Online data on a read-only basis through Intuit's API, and your bank data through Plaid, for the purpose of providing the service.
- Your use of QuickBooks is governed by Intuit's terms, and your use of Plaid by Plaid's terms. We are not responsible for those services.
- You can disconnect either at any time from Settings. We stop pulling data immediately.
- Our output is only as good as the data in your books. If your QuickBooks is out of date or miscategorized, your forecast and valuation will be too.
4. Free trial, price, and billing
- Trial. New accounts get a 14-day free trial with full access. No payment method is required to start.
- Plan. There is one plan, BalanceSheets Pro, at $100 USD per year for one business. Prices do not include applicable taxes.
- Payment. After the trial you can subscribe by paying through Stripe. If you do not subscribe, your access ends when the trial ends; your data is kept for 30 days in case you come back, then deleted.
- Renewal. Subscriptions renew yearly until you cancel. We will email you before each renewal.
- Cancel. Cancel anytime from Settings. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
- Refunds. If you are not happy in the first 30 days after your first payment, email hello@balancesheets.com and we will refund you in full. After that, payments are not refundable except where the law requires it.
- Price changes. If we change the price, it applies from your next renewal and we will tell you at least 30 days before.
5. Acceptable use
Do not:
- Connect accounts or data you do not have the right to connect.
- Try to break into, overload, or reverse engineer the service.
- Resell or share your account with people outside your business.
- Use the service for anything unlawful.
- Scrape or copy our content or output for a competing product.
We can suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
6. Your data and our software
- Your data is yours. You give us a license to use it only to run the service for you, as described in the privacy policy.
- Our software is ours. BalanceSheets, its design, code, and models stay our property. You get a license to use it while you have an account.
- Reports you share. Anyone with a share link can view that report. Share links carefully; you can turn them off from the report.
- Feedback. If you suggest improvements, we can use them without owing you anything.
7. AI-generated content
Chat answers and report narratives are produced by an AI model working from your data. We ground them in your real numbers and do not invent figures, but the model can still make mistakes, misread context, or miss something. Treat AI output as a starting point and verify anything you will act on.
8. What we promise and what we do not
- We will provide the service with reasonable care and skill.
- The service is provided “as is.” We do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any forecast, score, or valuation will prove accurate.
- We are not liable for business decisions you make based on the service, for lost profits, or for indirect or consequential damages.
- To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
- Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits; where that is the case, they apply only as far as the law allows.
9. Ending the agreement
- You can close your account anytime by emailing hello@balancesheets.com.
- We can end or suspend your access if you break these terms, if we must for legal reasons, or if we shut down the service (with at least 30 days notice and a prorated refund of any prepaid period).
- When the agreement ends, your right to use the service ends and we delete your data as described in the privacy policy.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute will be handled in the courts of Ontario, Canada, and both of us agree to that jurisdiction. If you are a consumer with non-waivable rights under your local law, those rights are not affected.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is material we will email account holders at least 14 days before it takes effect. Continued use after that date means you accept the change.
